Hi,
How are we all? I’ve had a lovely week off, chilling and exploring. I’ve also just realised we’re 5 months into 2024… when did that happen? In honour of May being the start of the cooler months in Australia, we booked a day trip to Rottnest Island. Here’s how our day went:
Ferry
Rottnest Fast Ferries was the boat service of choice, leaving from Hillary’s boat harbour! We opted for the 10:30am departure from Hillary’s and 4:30pm return from Rottnest Island. However, there is a 7:30am departure option for early risers!
We had a smooth 45 minute sailing across to the island. On board there is a range of seating options, inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs & a snack bar available. I can’t fault our experience on board!

Arrival
On arrival the ferry ports at Rottnest Island Main Jetty. From here it was a short 3 minute walk to breakfast at Dome & 5 minute walk to pick bikes up from Pedal and Flipper!
While booking our day trip to Rottnest, we were heavily encouraged from our friends to pre-book the electric bikes. I’m glad we did! Each e-bike was $71 for the day, which included locks and baskets. On arrival we had to pay a deposit of $500 for 4 bikes, as instructed we had the money back in our account 2 days later.

Exploring
Truthfully I had no plan going into the exploring of Rottnest! My hopes for the day was to see some smiley Quokka’s and have a look at the view of the city from the lighthouse.
We stopped by Paterson Beach, Parker Point, Jeannies Lookout, Wadjemup Lighthouse, the Pink Lake and Parakeet Bay. I’ll admit we seen a lot more than I expected in 5 short hours on the e-bikes! I was equally impressed by the sheer amount of Quokka’s we seen, as the views we seen them at.

All in all, we had a gorgeous day cycling around the island & I can’t believe it’s taken us 15 months of living in Perth to do it! Now I can’t wait to go back again and explore the western side of the island!
Have you been to Rottnest before? Where’s your favourite place to spend time at over there?
