Best Places to Eat in Sydney and Surrounding Areas 2024 – A Casual Diner’s Guide

Hi,

From casual street food to fine dining, there’s something for everyone.

Whether you want a quick bite or a gourmet experience, we found that Sydney had it all on your doorstep.

As casual diners, we love places where you don’t need bookings, have no strict dress codes, and get great value for your money.

This guide explores the best spots to eat in Sydney and surrounding areas in 2024 as casual diners!

Breakfast/ Coffee

Blackwood Pantry- Cronulla & Bondi

I was living my Sarah’s Day dream visiting here!

The rich and creamy oat milk latte was phenomenal.

While I didn’t get the chance to enjoy the food and bakery bits myself, I will say it looked very fresh.

I would highly recommend visiting here for a coffee!

The Bakery- Bondi

If you’re in the Bondi Beach area, you absolutely must get an almond croissant or pain au chocolat.

I enjoyed my regular coffee order, but the pastries were truly the highlight of my visit.

Pool Cafe- Maroubra

This cafe is right behind Mahon pool, which, if you haven’t been, is a fresh water pool in Maroubra that’s quite popular.

I met a friend for coffee here, got seated immediately, and enjoyed my regular coffee order at a very reasonable price.

Lunch/ Dinner

The Boat House- La Perouse

The ambience of this restaurant was exceptional. Located on the beach, the views were unmatched while we enjoyed a generous portion of fish and chips.

One portion to share is perfect for a lighter lunch, as it came with two large pieces of fish!

City Extra- Circular Quay

Based in the heart of Circular Quay, we popped in for a late-night snack after visiting the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

The hot scones advertised drew me in instantly. Served hot with cream and jam, I left a very happy customer.

Considering the prime location and the fact that the venue is open 24/7, the food was fantastic, and the prices were impressive!

Flour– Cronulla

I can’t stress this enough, this cafe was perfection! The green goddess sambo I had here… I have not stopped thinking about since!

While I didn’t indulge in any of the pastries, I was truly intrigued by the unique twists on your favourite bakery treats.

Paddy Chan’s Chinese- Kensington

If you’re Irish living in Australia, you’ll understand the hype around this Chinese takeaway. It’s meant to be a little taste of home!

Eating from Paddy Chan’s made me feel right at home.

The 4 in 1 combo box hit the spot, served with fried rice, salt and chilli chicken, chips and curry sauce.

Barren Joey Boat Shed- Palm Beach

The views from this cafe are incredible. It’s the perfect location for this venue based at the bottom of the iconic Palm Beach lookout trail.

While the food wasn’t our favorite, grabbing a coffee and pastry here is definitely worthwhile. Plus, you can’t miss the chance to enjoy that stunning view!

Summary

All in all, I can’t say I was disappointed by any aspect of the food scene in Sydney. From great value meals to beautiful dining locations.
