Exploring Sydney | 4-Day Itinerary

Hi,

As first-timers visiting Sydney, we wanted to cover all areas of tourism! Luckily for you, I have it all here in one place, making your travel planning easier.

We spent 4 nights in Sydney, originally planning for 5 days, but even with the flight delays on arrival, we made the most of every moment!

This 4-day itinerary turned out to be perfect for our adventure! If you’re interested in where we ate along the way you’ll love this post:

Day 1: Beaches & City Tourism

If the weather permits, start your day with excitement by taking an early sunrise walk at any of the iconic beaches: Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Maroubra.

The walk from Bronte to Bondi in the morning was a major highlight of our trip. While the sunrise wasn’t spectacular on the day we went, the walk itself was stunning.

Head to Maroubra for a sea dip in the refreshing Mahon pools and a coffee at The Pools cafe.

Exploring the city was amazing! We parked our car under the Sydney Opera House and strolled around Circular Quay, all the way to Harbour Bridge

If you don’t have a car, jumping on a hop-on-hop-off bus is a great alternative. We used Big Bus Tours when we visited Singapore and noticed they have a franchise in Sydney too if you’re interested.

Day 2: Sea Cliff Bridge

Pack up your bits bright and early to begin your exciting road trip with the first stop: Cronulla.

Whether you’re an avid Sarah’s Day watcher or not, you simply can’t miss this coastal suburb.

Start your day with breakfast at Blackwood Pantry or Flour, followed by a walk along the beach with a coffee in hand. I’d highly recommend taking a seat along the way to soak in the atmosphere.

From Cronulla, you can look forward to a scenic 47-minute drive through rural areas, small towns, and stunning lakes, all leading up to the highlight… the Sea Cliff Bridge!

Once you reach the bridge, the best thing you can do is park your car and enjoy a leisurely walk across the bridge, soaking in the views and the fresh salty air.

We decided to take an additional 55-minute drive to the Kiama Blowhole, and if you have some extra time, it makes for a fun road trip! However, if time is of the essence, I wouldn’t worry too much about visiting here.

Day 3: Blue Mountains

If there is any activity you do from this guide it has to be the Blue Mountains… best part is the walking trails are actually completely FREE to visit!

Scenic World is the company that operates the cable cars across the Blue Mountain valleys and the world’s steepest passenger train! We booked just 2 days ahead of our visit, and while it’s not essential, it’s highly recommended to ensure you don’t miss out.

If you’re planning a day trip, I highly recommend including the Scenic World experience! We spent 6 hours exploring, enjoying breathtaking views from the cable cars, and most importantly, laughing on the passenger train!

We arrived back in Sydney CBD just in time to enjoy a Paddy Chan’s Chinese takeaway and a sunset at Coogee! Couldn’t miss the opportunity for another candy floss sky.

Day 4: Palm Beach

On our journey home, we packed up the hotel room, caught a cloudy sunrise at Bondi, had the best pastries I’ve ever had at The Bakery, and began the 1-hour trip to Palm Beach.

This drive was the least enjoyable of the holiday. You’ll pass through many busy towns and encounter countless traffic lights. Stick with it though; the view when you get there is absolutely worth it.

From the car park up to the viewpoint is a brief but steep walk. Take your time and soak in the stunning scenery along the way! When you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with the iconic ‘Home and Away’ view.

On the drive back to Sydney, you can always stop by Manly Beach to grab an infamous ‘Butter Boy’ cookie and enjoy a walk along the surfer-filled beach.
