Perth | Top 3 Walking Spots

Hiii,

If you know me I love a good walk. City, beach, forest, countryside, I love it all. However, before going for a walk somewhere I tend to have a snoop around the internet to see how long they are, do they have a footpath and is there anything to do in the surrounding area. It can be a little difficult to find all this information in the one place, so here we are! Giving you all the info on my Top 5 Walking Spots in Perth, Western Australia.

Elizabeth Quay

This comes at no surprise if you know me personally or follow my Instagram, you will know this was always going to be number one! Specifically at nighttime. All the lights make it a beautiful city walk!

Distance

2k+. I say this because really you can go as far as you like. If you walk from the car park, around the quay & back again it’s a 2k walk. However, if you fancy a longer walk, the possibilities are endless! You can walk further up the quay, enjoyed the views of both sides of the city. Another option could be after walking the quay, making tracks into the city for a wander around the shops. Truly the options are endless because your in the city centre!

Footpath & Parking

Footpath: YES

Thankfully the entire walkway around Elizabeth Quay is a pedestrian only area! There are footpaths the entire way from the car park to the quay. You will have to use one set of traffic lights to cross the road. Once you’ve crossed here, your basically entering the pedestrian area! If you choose to walk up the quay, it’s also equipped with large footpaths the whole way to South Perth!

Parking: YES

There are a few car parks in the area. Every time we go for our evening stroll here, City of Perth Parking is our safe bet. It’s a ticketed car park, which accepts both cash and card! After 6pm it’s free parking, which is perfect if you are going to enjoy this walk at night! Which we do. You also get to walk through the pretty Foreshore Park en route to Elizabeth Quay!

Things To Do

Eat & Drink. You have no shortage of places to go for a bite to eat, cocktails, ice cream or fancy schmancy meal! The only place we’ve personally tried is Baskin Robbins for an ice cream (cookie dough always). We’ve had friends who rate Reveley and The Lucky Shag for drinks! Your spoilt for choice.

Boat Trip. Recently we had a spontaneous cruise across the river to South Perth from Elizabeth Quay for $3.45. Bargain. You buy your tickets right in the heart of Elizabeth Quay at the Transperth booth. It’s a lovely 10 minute trip & highly recommend it at night time! Plus you can have a wander around the area or enjoy a bite to eat or drink on that side.

Shopping. Being a short 5 minute walk from all your favourite shops, you can always nip across the street for some retail therapy!

Scarborough – Trigg Beach

You simply can’t be in Perth and no enjoy this beautiful beach walk. Really if you go to Scarborough you have so many beautiful walking options! Our number one place to watch the fiercest sunsets.

Distance

A nice 2k walk from Scarborough beach to Trigg beach & back. On this 2k walk you have no shortage of gorgeous ocean views and the whitest sand! If you opt for an evening stroll, you are in the perfect location for a breath taking sunset. As always, for a longer walk you can continue walking past Trigg! We’ve walked from Scarborough to North Beach, which racked up a 9k round trip. During the autumn or spring seasons this is a lovely, breezy and refreshing walk!

Footpath & Parking

Footpath: YES

You have two safe walking options for this walk! You can enjoy the ocean view by walking on the sandy beach itself or from a distance on the footpath. Both are great options! Again if you want to walk further the entire coastal route has footpaths available. If you are using the footpaths, please be aware of the electric scooters zooming by!

Parking: YES

Scarborough beach has a mixture of free and paid parking options. The Esplanade has all the free parking options, this can be hit or miss with how easy it is to get a spot! If you are stuck you can always pay for cheap parking at Wilson Parking which is right on the beach front. You pay for this parking online through the Wilson Parking App, which means you pay for the exact amount of time your parked. For your walk, you’ll have no roads to cross!

Things To Do

Eat & Drink. Similar to Elizabeth Quay, you have no shortage of options. We’ve sampled a fair free but here’s our favourites! Galway Hooker for a great Irish chicken curry and bev (watermelon Somerby is a must). Zoie Cafe for a delish fresh brekkie or brunch option and of course great coffee! The Lookout for a beautiful view and cocktails. Or sample a culture of foods from the Scarborough Markets on a Thursday night during summer months or Saturday during winter!

Bowling. On Monday nights you can make your way to The Lookout for $20 pizza & bowling combo! We have done this in the past with friends and had a great time!

Markets. I mentioned these earlier in the food section, but these make a great evening activity! It’s not all delicious food. You have lots of crafty stalls with jewellery, home-wear, fashion, crystals and gorgeous paintings or prints! During the summer there have been full blown raves going on at the beach with a DJ on. Other times there’s been cultural celebration nights, which authentic music to their country! It’s a whole vibe.

Kings Park

This had to make the cut for the versatility of this place! You can go to Kings Park and you’ll have endless variations of where your going for a walk. Plus it just outside the city, making it super accessible!

Distance

There is no point of giving a distance for this one. There are way too many walking options! We’ve been here countless times and walked 5 different paths! Kings Park is the worlds largest park in a city, needless to say you can have as big or small as you please…

Footpath & Parking

Footpath: YES

Anywhere you walk in the park you will be walking on grass in a car free area, footpaths at the road side or paths around the walking trails. Safe and sound throughout the entire park!

Parking: YES

Lots of parking available! Plus it’s ALL FREE! If you can’t find parking at the centre, take a drive up any of the roads from the roundabout & you will find more!

Things To Do

Picnic. There are free barbecues on Fraser Avenue in Kings Park. We have also brought some of our favourite takeouts here to enjoy them! Bring a towel, sit on the grass, enjoy your food and watch the day go by. Cheap are cheerful!

Explore the Bridges. There are two very fun bridges to walk over with amazing views! If you click either of these links, they will take you to maps so you can find them on your walk: Rio Tinto Naturescape and Lotterywest Federation Walkway .

There we have it folks, my all time top 3 favourite walks in Perth! All safe to walk, parking available and plenty of fun activities to do while your there! Make a day out of it!
