Save Money To Travel | 3 Tips That Will Change Your Travel Life

Hiii,

Moving to Australia, holidays in Australia, travelling back home and planning a pretty epic end of year trip can be a pretty penny. Having a savings along with travelling is very important to me. I don’t feel good spending money when I don’t have money to fall back on. I know this can be a hot take… with that being considered here’s 3 tips that will change your travel life!

50/30/20

This rule dedicates 50% of your income to bills, 30% on wants & 20% in savings. Each week I get paid I take 15% of my wants category and put it into a high interest savings account. This way I can earn interest on my travel money, when I’m not spending it! Another bonus to this tip, is that you only spend what you have. If you don’t have enough in your travel budget, then no booking. This is a guilt and pressure free way of travelling. Your not putting yourself in debt. At the end of each calendar month, any money left over from my wants budget, gets transferred into my travel savings!

Holiday Shopping

Hot take… you don’t need to do a big holiday shop every time you go on holidays. Sorry not sorry. Social media can make you feel like you need to order an entire new wardrobe for every holiday. Truth is you’ll probably never wear the clothes again. I limit myself to 2 new pieces per trip. You will not believe how much money you will save doing this. An extra bonus to doing this, you don’t have a wardrobe full of clothes you never wear! Staples or a capsule wardrobe is key tip for getting out of the habit of wanting new clothes!

Set Alerts

Flights are usually the most expensive part of travelling. Skyscanner offers a feature to set a price alert & notify you via email. Particularly when we were going to Orlando, I made use of this feature & managed to bag flights for 2 adults, return for under £800! Virgin Australia also offer a Happy Hour on Thursdays, which have amazing deals! Usually domestic flights are under $300 on these deals! These deals are usually snatched up pretty quick, it’s best to add the date to your calendar or an alarm to remind you!

Money saving travel tips are always my favourite conversation! I think it’s important to stress the importance of saving. I’ve been on small holidays were whatever is in my account is what I have to spend. It’s not a good feeling. I’m glad I’m in a position now where I have a separate fund for travelling. It might take you a little longer to get to your booking stage, but it’s a lot less stressful! A deal is only a deal if you can afford it! Speaking of deals, I love finding a good deal & love helping others get great deals too! I’m a registered travel agent, this comes along with hotel discount perks… if any of the blog crew would like a free quote you can always DM me on Instagram!
