Thailand | 14-21 Day Itinerary Travelling Thailand

Hi,

If you’re a couple in your twenties looking to backpack through Thailand for 21 days, you’re in for an unforgettable adventure!

The itinerary you’re about to read is based on our own experience- what we did, what we wish we’d done differently, and how we learned to make the most of our time.

Whether you’re looking to explore vibrant cities, chill on stunning beaches, or immerse yourselves in local culture, we’ve put this guide together to help you optimise your trip and make every day count!

Bangkok: 1-2 Nights

Bangkok is a bustling city experience that blends rich history with modern tourism. For first-time visitors, you can expect sleek skyscraper skylines, local markets culture and traditional temples.

The street food scene is a highlight, with everything from spicy curries to sweet treats. Whether you’re into shopping, nightlife, or simply exploring the diverse areas of the city, Bangkok has something for everyone!

In my opinion start with the crazy busy city life and end on the chill beach holiday. A single or couple of nights in Bangkok is plenty time on a short trip to experience the highlights of the city.

Things To Do/ See

  • Mahanakhon Skywalk
  • Chinatown
  • Wat Pho Temples
  • Floating markets
  • Golden Buddah
  • Samyan Mitrown- A must for dining

3-4 Nights Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a quiet small city in northern Thailand, known for its temples, rich history, and relaxed vibe.

Surrounded by mountains, it offers a mix of ancient temples, bustling markets, and a vibrant street food scene.

I whole heartedly wish we spent more time in Chiang Mai! On our trip we spent 2 nights here and it just wasn’t enough to fully appreciate the beautiful chill atmosphere of this little town.

Things To Do/ See

  • Elephant Sanctuary
  • Jungle coaster
  • Kats Kitchen- best pad Thai
  • Much Room Cafe
  • Land of Angels Waterfall park
  • Street markets

4-7 Nights Pai

Pai is a small, valley town in northern Thailand, known for its stunning landscapes and slow paced atmosphere.

Surrounded by mountains, hot springs, and waterfalls, it’s perfect for nature lovers. Pai offers a peaceful escape with a bohemian vibe.

Pai was away and by far both myself and Jordan’s favourite location of our Thailand holiday! It holds such a special place in our heart.

Things To Do/ See

  • Bamboo Bridge
  • Pai Walking Street for dinner is a must!
  • Mo Pang Waterfall
  • Yun Lai Viewpoint

4-6 Nights Ao Nang

Ao Nang is a coastal town in southern Thailand, known for its beautiful beaches and stunning limestone cliffs.

It’s the perfect base for island hopping, with easy access to nearby spots like Railay Beach, Hong Islands and the Phi Phi Islands.

Explore the markets, enjoy fresh seafood, and take part in the infamous water activities like kayaking and snorkeling.

Things To Do/ See

  • Hong Islands Day Trip
  • Rai Lay Beach- Take a long boat from the beach
  • Monkey Trail
  • Crazy Gringos- delish fajitas here
  • Ao Nang Night Markets
Rai Lay Beach

2-3 Nights Phuket

Phuket is a diverse part of southern Thailand with different many different vibes depending on where you stay!

Kamala was a bit too quiet for us- while we’re not big party-goers, we found it lacked enough activity. I can see this being the perfect spot for people who love a resort holiday.

Old Town was a great spot with rich history and stunning architecture right on your doorstep.

Patong was the lively, bustling hotspot we loved as our last stop, full of energy and entertainment.

We stayed in all three locations, but if I were to do it again, I’d pick just one base since they’re all so close and easy to get to on a scooter.

Things To Do/ See

  • Karon Viewpoint
  • Naka Weekend Market
  • Mad Hog Tavern- Harry Potter inspired bar
  • Thalang Road
Patong Beach
