Hiii,
Fellow type C, detail orientated, planner, personalities, these staple travel planning tips will sing to your heart. For my type B, easy going, chilled out personalities, I’ve tried my best to keep these to the most core planning keys, to make travel planning simple and not overwhelming! P.s were on our 12 day countdown to our first time going long term travelling! I used all these tips to organise our 26 days in Asia…
Research
When sitting down to plan any holiday I get overwhelmed. With excitement mainly because I genuinely enjoy the research part of travel planning, but I also feel a little scared that I will miss something! Here is how I gather information about any travel destination we are visiting:
- Utilize travel blogs, social media, and YouTube to get a general sense of the place.
- Search for specific phrases like “[Destination] travel guide” or “[Destination] travel itinerary” for more insights.
- Reach out to someone who has been there, like a friend or a travel blogger.
- Join travel Facebook groups, DM travel influencers on Instagram, and seek advice from friends for personalized recommendations.
These are the 4 research keys I use to cover all areas! When we went to Orlando last year, I spent months watching Disney Food Blog, Brogan Tate and Disney in Detail to make sure we wouldn’t miss out on the finer details to the experience! Whereas, when we were moving to Australia I found the internet lacked this key information. Which is why I made my own blog series of all the 101 research you’ll need for your move to Australia!
Budget Plan
Having a pre-travel budget and using a travel card is a great idea. I personally use Monzo, but any card with no fees will work. By putting your spending money on the card, you can enjoy guilt-free spending during your holidays without breaking the bank at home. Do a little research to determine how much to budget for your trip. See how these tips come full circle… I’ve got your back with these travel planning tips!
Anywhere I travel to I will always create a destination price breakdown of exactly how much we spent, to help you determine how much you might need on your trip! You can read my Orlando price breakdown *here* or moving to Australia price breakdown *here*… I got you guys!
Don’t Over Plan
Planning an itinerary can be challenging for both hyper organizers and go-with-the-flow non-planners. The key to a successful trip is to have a rough idea of when, where, and what you will do. Saving places on Apple or Google Maps can help in deciding where to stay based on how close the accommodation is to the activities you want to do. Some things, like theme parks and dining experiences, may require advance booking, but for the rest, you can simply open your map guide on your phone and decide in the moment. Keep the plan loose.
I mentioned briefly in the intro that were travelling around Asia for 26 days. My friends reading this will struggle to believe I have only 2 experiences pre-planned… I know! I’ve done this because from the research I’ve done on this type of holiday, it seems to be the best way! All I have done is added places to Apple Maps, once we arrive we will use the locals to give us the best advice on how to get there.
Digital Document Copies
ALWAYS keep a picture of your passport, driver’s license, and travel insurance. You never know when or where you’ll need these important documents, and it’s not always safe to carry them around with you. It will take you two minutes to take a picture and save it to the files on your phone. I’ll actually go as far as to say, do it right now… after you read this blog, of course!
Personally I like to save mine in my pictures and Google Drive as an extra safety net!
Share Your Location
When traveling alone or with a group, it is important to inform your loved ones about your travel plans and stay connected with them throughout your trip. Sending occasional messages to let them know you have arrived safely or dropping a pin to share your location can provide peace of mind. I use an app called Life360 which is helpful for notifying your friends when you take a taxi or any form of public transport. Prioritizing your safety during your travels ensures a smooth journey.
The Power of Now
Lastly, enjoy every moment and embrace the new experiences that your travel will bring. Myself included, I can get caught up in what will look great on social media. Try to take a minute or two to just step back and take mental memories. Have a no phones meal. Book only, beach trip. I love with all my heart creating travel content for my own enjoyment, but it’s equally important to me to enjoy the present moment. I can guarantee you will feel more grateful for life than ever when you stop and think on your travels how lucky you are to be there! Life is good.
I wish you all the best travel planning in 2024 and all the best travel memories! If you use any of these tips, DM me on Instagram, I would love to hear all about it!
Thank you for being here <3
